With the visit to Te Anau completed for our short Central Otago and Southland circuit, its time to head to Invercargill via Tuatapere and the South Coast… of course its going to be a slow trip as we have been doing all the way around our trip stopping to watch our kiwis in their olympic events and today was not different…. a wee bit taxing on our RBI data but well worth it. The first stop was on the side of the road in Tuatapere township yelling and cheering in our moho… crikey I hope no ones watching us, and then we went to the Orepuke Highway Cafe for lunch. Before going in to dine, we parked on the side of the road out the front in time to catch the Women’s Eights, Satellite dish up and TV on just in time… the cheering was almost like we were there… well done girls, woohoo SILVER MEDAL. Men’s Eights wa next but now we were inside a quiet cafe which appears no one else realised the Olympics were on or more likely didn’t care lol. Watching the MensEights on my iPhone was interesting as Jude and I were squeezed up at a little table by the front window watching the men’s Eight just going for it… personally I didn’t think they could do it but as the race got to the 1000m mark I thought holy shit they might just medal… Jude however had every confidence in them and trying to keep her from squealing like a excited school girl and jumping out of her seat was like trying to stop water running through your fingers and yes there were a few strange glances from a couple of other diners lol. Well after a lovely seafood chowder and a hot coffee it was of to Monkey Island to watch more Kiwis at the Olympics. Great afternoon there there recharged the batteries and headed to Invercargill NZMCA…. Time for evening dinner and a well deserved sleep.
