(Feature image: One of the reconstructed streets of old Christchurch in the late 1800s) Yes folks another grey day in Christchurch today and it does not look like its going to improve in the near future. Getting out and about is still the protocol for us no matter the weather so we were off to Hagley Park for a walk. Hagley park is basically in Central Christchurch and although we have been there before it was only as a route from city center to motel. This time we walked around and through the park which is actually quite a large area. Although a cold, grey day the views were still very good as it made us focus on the few wintry objects you would normally ignore… simple little things like the trees silhouetted against a grey background and believe it or not the bark on a trees. The Pinus pinaster or Maritime pines planted in the 1870’s were fabulous with beautiful bark. We visited the Botanical Gardens, even in the winter there is always something that catches the eye, the very last of rose bloom a splash of colour on a grey day, the glass house with its many tropical plants but warm as well. The orchid display was fabulous with many different varieties. The other amazing plants were the carnivorous plants especially the pitfalls, where the prey fall into a pool of digestive enzymes, remaining trapped in the jug shaped leaf. The very cheerful display of cyclamen brightened up a very grey day. A lovely coffee at the info centre  then onto the Museum. We did not get to see all of the museum and it was amazing how fast time went. The history of old Cantebury is quiet interesting along with good historical displays especially the WWI and WWII displays. Another attraction is the interactive science section for kids and some adult lol. There will be a revisit to the museum as we probably covered about 50% of what was available.
