We awoke to a good frost and fog! Finally at 11am it cleared. Then off on our first bike ride after a long spell off our bikes. Starting at Burtons Creek where we spent the night, our mission was to find the coffee boat! We’d been looking forward to riding this new track and had heard a lot of good comments. After the rubbish weather we have had over the past couple of weeks, it was a good day for riding this track. The track is well groomed and makes its way along the edge of the lake, initially with easy undulations before climbing up over some nice rises and winding in and out of guts. The ride along the lake edge using the clip-ons overhanging the lake is a stunning piece of work and a credit to the workforce who worked on it. A couple of long winding climbs taxed the legs a bit but going down the other side was a bonus. After 20 km we finally arrived at the “Coffee Float” a small Cafe on a pontoon just big enough to seat four people and 3 staff… of course there was plenty of room on the track to enjoy your coffee and muffin and boy they tasted fabulous just what we needed! The views were magnificent the only negative was the very cool NW breeze but the positive was the tail wind going back! It’s a credit to all whom constructed this amazing trail the swing bridge, switch backs, cantilever sections. It’s a trail well worth doing. Now we have to join the section we haven’t done Cornish Point to coffee boat.
