(above photo: The imposter cat) As we approach the end of our time in Te Anau, we look forward to the rush of the next few months building up to Christmas… it’s going to be hectic. Sunday 30th September is the day our friends return from their Rarotonga holiday and the end of our house sit for them. Have to admit that we now know that some cats can be strange and unpredictable. Our friends having faith in us to look after their pets is a compliment… but sometimes things just don’t go to plan. Two furry cuties called Flea and Ginny were the cats we had to look after, Flea lasted all of the 3 seconds I had when Terri the owner went to introduce us… never seen him again for the month and Ginny she was a weirdo… stayed around for the first day, head butted us the way cats do, all over us as friendly as you could get…. “Nek Minit” didn’t see her again for the month. Jude felt bad as she felt she had lost the cats, how ever I took the view “How could we lose cats that were never there, they chose to leave”. One night a cat came in through the cat flap, looked at us and continued on his way to the cat food we made sure was dished up everyday in the kitchen, he then walked slowly and casually over to us on the lazyboy chairs, rubbed up, demanded a pat and proceeded to sit on the arm of the lazyboy between Jude and I. I thought crikey this looks like Flea from what I remember of the split second look I got of him…. maybe this is Flea and he has accepted us finally. Well I took a photo and sent it to Stew and Terri showing them that Flea has returned and is now very comfortable with us….. the reply…. “Never seen that one before” from Stew and Terri sort of deflated and this cunning little bugger was taking advantage of a couple of idiots lol. Any way to cut a long story short, when the owners returned, within three hours Flea had returned…. didn’t hear anything about Ginny so here’s hoping she returns too. While in Te Anau we were asked by friends if we wouldn’t mind looking after their pets for a week, well we’ll never say no to friends so we took it on. Megs and Fleur , two fluffy Persian cats were just gorgeous and were such different cats to the previous rat bags. A none stressed week with these Persians as they hung around for the week with us. Still it didn’t take away the disappointment of the absconded pussies.
